A 14-YEAR-OLD youth will appear in a court this morning for a bail/remand application hearing after being charged overnight with two counts of arson.

He has been charged in relation to a fire which was deliberately lit at The Flume last Friday and a blaze in a vacant block at Hopetoun Road early Monday.

The youth has also been charged with two counts of reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

He was arrested, interviewed and remanded in custody overnight to appear in a court this morning.

A fire was reported at The Flume, off Warrnambool’s Merri Street, at 2.50am last Friday.

The blaze burnt scrub covering an area about 45 metes by 15m just north of the Promenade walking track.

The deliberately lit fire at the Hopetoun Road vacant block was reported to emergency services at 12.30am Monday.

The fire burnt out grass covering an area of 10m by 15m and was quickly extinguished by Warrnambool fire brigade units.
