WARRNAMBOOL police are on the lookout for a dark-coloured Holden station wagon after the attempted theft of a $4000 ring at Michael Hill Jewellers today.

Constable John Whichello said that just after noon this afternoon a man attempted to steal the ring from the Gateway Plaza store but was thwarted by staff.

He would-be thief left the store quickly empty-handed.

“He’s attempted to steal the ring valued at $4000 but they got it back and he’s fled from the shop,” he said.

“He’s believed to be driving a dark red or dark coloured Holden station wagon. There were reports a similar coloured car pulled in to the Homemaker Centre and we’re continuing our investigations.”

Constable Whichello requested anyone with information about the attempted theft to contact the Warrnambool police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
