Warrnambool skipper Glen McNaughton said several players in each rink would make their division one finals debut at Port Fairy this afternoon.

“It’s a different games in finals,” he said.

“Some people handle pressure and some people don’t.

“We’ve got a lot of first-year players who haven’t played division one finals before.

“It will be a good experience for them.”

Blue is Warrnambool Bowls Club’s second top grade side that has produced an exceptional season, finishing the home-and-away rounds in third position.

“With the side we had on paper at the start of the year, I thought we had a good show of finishing fourth or fifth but to finish third was a little bit above our expectations,” McNaughton said.

“Our form as a team across the whole four rinks has been good.

“It’s just been a good team effort.”

McNaughton, who is in his first season as skipper, said Blue had a strong team mentality.

“Each rink plays their own contest within the game but it’s the overall score which is the all-important, so we all try to encourage each other and keep an eye on what’s going on in the other rinks,” he said.

His side will enter today’s clash as favourite after a convincing win against Dennington three weeks ago.

“They’ll get a few back in this week.

“We’re expecting a very hard match.”

In today’s second semi-final at Port Fairy, heavyweights Warrnambool Gold and City Memorial Red are vying for a ticket to the grand final.

In division two at Dennington, City Blue meets Warrnambool Red in the first semi, while the second semi sees Koroit Blue and Warrnambool White clash.

Warrnambool Orange faces Dennington Green in division three, while Koroit White meets City White, with both matches also at Dennington.

In division four at City Memorial, Port Fairy Black and Warrnambool Yellow battle in the do-or-die final, while Warrnambool Maroon and Koroit Green are aiming to advance to the grand final.
