THE Terang colts side can relate to the saying ‘anything can happen in finals’, with the youngsters coming from third position to book a spot in this weekend’s season decider.

Terang will meet Cobden in Sunday’s South West Cricket colts south grand final, in which it will start underdog.

But the status should not faze the side too much after it skittled the higher-ranked Bookaar in last weekend’s semi-final.

Terang coach Nigel Bruckner was naturally pleased with the performance from his side, which finished about three wins behind the Pelicans on the ladder.

“We batted first and made 110, which we thought would give us a chance to win, but then we ended up bowling them out for 46,” he said.

“It was a bit of a surprise.

“We bowled and fielded really well.”

It was not the first time Terang had inflicted a collapse on an opponent.

“We had a game against Boorcan before Christmas and we got bowled out for 58, which we were pretty disappointed with, but then we ended up bowling them out for 20,” Bruckner said.

“I think our bowling and fielding has been slightly stronger than our batting this season.”

Medium-pacer Jarrod Loader took a stellar 6-13 off six overs in the semi-final victory.

Bruckner believes his players will take confidence out of the match.

“Like I said to the kids after the game, it shows that if you can play good, consistent cricket, the results will come,” he said.

Regardless of Sunday’s result against minor premier Cobden, the coach said his side had fulfilled its main aim this season.

“My main goal for the kids is not so much focusing on winning and losing, but just focusing on improving, which they’ve done,” he said.

“We’ve improved as the season’s gone on.”

Terang has stuck to its usual routine ahead of the grand final, training on Tuesday night.

“They’re all pretty excited,” Bruckner said of his players.

“They should be proud that they’ve got to the grand final. They’re a great bunch of kids to coach.”

Cobden will start favourite in Sunday’s final after recording two convincing victories against Terang this season.

Action at Camperdown turf starts at 11am.
