CONCERNS for player welfare has forced the cancellation of a match between Hampden Football Netball League’s (HFNL) under 23 representative side and North Ballarat reserves, which was scheduled for Sunday, March 18, at Friendly Societies’ Park.

Hampden chief executive officer Michael Farrow said the timing of the showcase demanded too much of young players who were set to participate in the Four10 Cup the previous day.

He said the decision was finalised on Tuesday night.

“After consideration and input from club coaches and the interleague coach Nick O’Sullivan and his assistants, it was decided in the interest of players’ welfare and the timing of the game that the best solution was to cancel,” he said.

The match would also have clashed with a Hampden region level one coaching course at Glenormiston.

Farrow said North Ballarat had accepted Hampden’s position and would work to reschedule the game for next year.

“Our thanks go to South Warrnambool, who was prepared to hold the game, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” he said.

The Four10 Cup will be played at Port Fairy’s Gardens Oval on Saturday, March 17.
