The 42 students are beginning a clinical rotation in the city as part of their course.

Mayor Jacinta Ermacora said the aim was to attract and retain many of the students to enhance local medical services.

Two students from last year’s intake are now working as interns at South West Healthcare.

“The event is an opportuntunity to showcase everything Warrnambool has to offer these young professionals as they plan their careers in healthcare,” Cr Ermacora said.

Host clinicians, guests from Deakin’s medicine school and South West Healthcare were also present at the annual welcome, held at the city’s art gallery.
