The City Memorial Pink skipper admitted she was struggling in the early stages of the decider against Dennington, which entered the tea break at Cramer Street with a handy seven-shot advantage.

But some wise words in the clubrooms from City Memorial supporters and a thoughtful gift from club member Beryl Duncan sparked a turnaround.

Madden singled out the support from Duncan, who gave her a guardian angel at the break which she then pinned on her playing top.

With the help of that angel, Madden guided her rink to victory, sealing a City Pink clean sweep, with the host defeating Dennington 82-57.

While Madden edged past Olive McKenzie 24-20, Alice O’Bray overcame Joan Symons 27-17 and Lorraine Dakin enjoyed a 31-20 triumph over Bev Conn.

“We beat them twice this season and there was a hot day where we didn’t play,” Madden said.

“But we knew that everyone brings their best game to a final. It was a very close match and we were just so happy to win.

“Dennington is a lovely team to play and we enjoy the companionship we have with them.”

The skipper, who iced the victory by impressively drawing her last two bowls, was grateful that City Memorial had such a strong supporter base yesterday. “The ladies in the clubhouse were so supportive,” she said of the advice given.

“They told us to go out there and concentrate.

“We picked up and came home strong.”

The come-from-behind victory capped off an unpredictable season in division two.

“We were running fourth for most of the season and the last week of (minor round) games, we jumped to second,” Madden said.

City Pink’s premiership means it has earned promotion to division one next season, joining clubmates City Gold and City Green in the top grade.
