Dean McInnes, 26, had pleaded not guilty in the Warrnambool County Court trial to a charge of culpable driving and two counts of negligent driving causing serious injury.

A jury returned three not guilty verdicts yesterday after deliberating for more than a day in the trial, which spanned two weeks.

McInnes had already pleaded guilty to alternative lesser charges — two counts of dangerous driving causing serious injury and a charge of dangerous driving causing death, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.
