Matthew Graham Wickham, 18, of Price Place, pleaded not guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to crossing double lines, incorrectly overtaking another vehicle and going through a red light.

He was found guilty, convicted and fined $800 and has to pay $95 costs.

Magistrate Ann McGarvie accepted the version of events set out by a young woman who saw Wickham’s manner of driving, followed him and took down his licence plate registration number.

The witness said she thought Wickham was going to collide with her car.

“I thought there wasn’t a chance in hell he would miss me,” she said.

“He could have killed anyone on the road that day. He is completely unknown to me.”

Ms McGarvie said the evidence of the witness was very credible, she gave evidence without hesitation and immediately reported the matter to police.

The magistrate decided not to interfere with Wickham’s licence as demerit points will catch up with the young driver.
